NESOI Newsletter: October 2020 Issue

Dear Reader,

Welcome to the third issue of our quarterly newsletter! As you may know, the European Islands Facility NESOI aims to bring Europe’s energy transition ambitions a step forward by providing to islands training, technical support, cooperation opportunities and robust funding, to concretely implement Renewable Energy Sources (RES) plans, buildings and energy infrastructure retrofitting, energy bills reduction, local job creation and more, allowing them to become the locomotives of European Energy Transition.

The newsletter includes updates on the most important actions of the project such as the recently launched first Open Call for proposals, training activities as well as key events Island communities with an interest in Energy Transition should keep an eye on.

NESOI LAUNCHES FIRST OPEN CALL: OVER 3 MILLION EUROS AVAILABLE TO SUPPORT ISLANDS WITH THEIR ENERGY TRANSITION AMBITIONS
The first open call from the European Island Facility NESOI offers grants of up to € 60k per proposal as well as up to € 60K worth of Technical Assistance to help local European islands reach their energy transition ambitions.

Register to and watch the NESOI Regional Capacity Building Webinars in Local Languages!
The European Islands Facility NESOI facilitates the decentralization of energy systems which contributes to EU policy in achieving 2030 climate targets. To reach NESOI’s objectives a survey on European islands was conducted to understand and identify islands’ energy challenges, projects readiness, and assistance requirements to fine tune NESOI’s Technical Assistance solutions. The webinars provide useful insights into the survey findings in several languages.

Register to "ISLANDS AS PIONEERS OF THE CLIMATE PACT" Webinar at EU Regions Week 2020
On Wednesday 21st October, NESOI project coordinator, Andrea Martinez will speak at the "Islands as pioneers of the Climate Pact" online session, organized in the frame of the EU Regions Week 2020 where he will be discussing Island energy transition as an opportunity for economic recovery post-COVID-19. Register by 14th October!

WATCH: International NESOI Webinar VOL. #2 - Eligibility Self-Check Tool and Early Information about NESOI's First Call
On 30th July, NESOI conducted it's 2nd international webinar. Early-stage information on how the first call for applicants is being organized was shared and also information on how the islands can get prepared for the call using the Islands’ Self-Check Analysis for Eligibility developed by the NESOI team.

NESOI at SUSTAINABLE PLACES 2020
Join the digital event “Energy Transition on European Islands: from innovation to implementation: how to make the energy transition on islands a reality?” which will be chaired by representatives of the NESOI project on Thursday 29th October from 13.00 to 15.00 CEST .
