"Zero Waste Islands" a workshop by Dafni Network

 On 4 April 2023, the Network of Sustainable Greek Islands (DAFNI) in collaboration with the Hellenic Ministry of Environment and Energy, and in the framework of the project LIFE-IP CEI-Greece, titled: “Circular Economy Implementation in Greece” will organise an online workshop in English on the topic "Zero Waste Islands".

The zero-waste idea in insular regions will be examined as a special strategy during this workshop, taking into account the geographic challenges and risks islands are facing. the dearth of natural resources, the population and budgetary difficulties, the As the primary economic activity, the energy-intensive and waste-producing sector of tourism, its distance from administrative centers, and its treatment and recycling infrastructure are some crucial factors that contribute to the strain on environmental and waste management problems.

The session will count on high-level speakers from relevant European bodies such as the EU Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions, and the European Networks, Zero Waste Europe and ACR+ who will convey policy and funding developments. It will also host waste experts, NGOs and authorities from advanced islands from Greece and across the EU that will share their experiences, practices and strategies in waste management, as well as successful examples of project implementation towards "zero waste".
